After last upgrade, what i lost !

I almost lost as many as 35-40 blog post(s), after the last wp and database update on the site,

I agree I didnt had a backup while upgrading the same, now i have put the same in place, but i have already lost 35-40 post made in Gujarati, even post with pics and gujarati content.

Something is going wrong with the update, when i checked with the site after the updates i had already lost the said posts all were displayed as “?????” I got fustrated and left posting for almost couple of months.

just before few days i started back and removed all the non human readable posts, and from today i started back in English, currently i would not use Gujarati “Transliteration” tool for typing in GUJ, as the post typed by that tool got lost in upgrade, it not the fault of tool nor WP, but it was me !!!

Getting frustrated with slow internet speed? getting bullock cart speed on your high speed internet ?

From today you might already seen many your of your daily sites are not opening or feels like they are really hosted far away, don’t worry if every thing goes on right track as predected then the problem will go away after 3 days from today !

The undersea fiber (better know as the parent class undersea cable) is getting repaired, which is causing the the slow internet speed not only in india but in other countries too.

Before you jump to any thing let me tell you as per wikipedia “The cable is approximately 18,800 kilometres long, and provides the primary Internet backbone between South East Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and Europe” known as “SEA-ME-WE-4″

Shuttleworth Says Ubuntu Can’t Just Be Windows

ruphus13 writes "When Mark Shuttleworth was asked what role WINE will play in Ubuntu's success, he said that Ubuntu cannot simply be a better platform to run Windows apps. From the post, according to Shuttleworth, '[Windows and Linux] both play an important role but fundamentally, the free software ecosystem needs to thrive on its own rules. it is *different* to the proprietary software universe. We need to make a success of our own platform on our own terms. if Linux is just another way to run Windows apps, we can't win. OS/2 tried that ...' The post goes on to say, 'Linux simply isn't Windows (nor is Windows Linux) and to expect fundamentally different approaches (and I'm not just thinking closed versus open) to look, feel, and operate the same way is senseless.'"

Just moved WP from /words to /

I have just moved sites WP from /words to / (of the domain), I was earlier planning to create different pages for / and some of the internal pages but, from long it was pending.

Moving WP from one directory to another was a quick task, I followed the Example from here and it worked like a charm, although I would be keeping my eyes on this, just to make sure nothing breaks :)

What Did You Do First With Linux?

ruphus13 writes "OStatic has an interesting article on remembering the first time you used Linux. Quoting: 'I'm not sure if the admission that I remember my first Linux installation much more clearly than any date with my first boyfriend or my first date with my husband is a really wise thing to put in writing. I will freely admit it wasn't quite as anxiety-inducing as a date, and the long-term relationship that sprang from it taught me quite a bit about myself, how I learn, and how to passionately load kernel modules at boot. So, what was your first Linux experience?'"

Google’s Chrome missing feature

Below are some of the missing features of Chrome which i could guess from searches and using chrome from last 24 Hrs.

1) Proxy setting

Chrome uses IE’s Proxy setting insted of using it’s own proxy setting like other browsers.
Don’t know why this was done, but creates a bad impression on lots of users !!

2) Page Rank Bar
really required fro SEO point of view

3) Plugins !!

4) No Process Bar !!! to show progress as Web pages load

5) no button for quick printing

If they could have atleast ported some of the top rated plugin from mozilla / firfox before launching the Chrome browser, it could also helped a lot.

by the way i am planning to postpone my Firstlook with Chrome as lifehacker already did so

Google enters into browser war with Chrome

What is Google Chrome?

It’s a Internet browser in short term. As Google Chrome page says “A browser that combines a minimal Design with sophisticated technology to make web bla bla bla….” Like every other browser company’s Google also promises to make Web faster, safer and easier with Chrome.
Google has developed it’s own browser, in challenge to Microsoft’s Dominant Internet Explorer.

I have already started the download of “Chrome” to check out how it works, anyways not going to switch my browser in near feature from FF3 /IE7

Some Lights on Chrome

- Developed using components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox
- Process based architecture, like most modern OS.
- Different TAB will have different child process (need to under stand this more in details).
- Smart user will come to know what site is using what CPU n memory !!
- SAD TAB concept, if one tab goes down it would be sad tab but it want effect the other tabs !!!
- Clams for Good memory and Process management!!
- Concept of “Chrome bot”
- Virtual Machine (V8) for java script
- No Address bar but omnibox, omnibox are the address bar with more features and different for each TAB) like Searches, TOP pages, most visted pages, Popular pages you havn’t visited
- Full text search over the history, Some times we forget to bookmark the pages we need to use next time, next day, Full text search of history would be useful in this case.
- Privacy mode, can create a “Incognito” window, what ever happen inside that tab is not logged on the Machine and browser, even the cookies, will be cleared ones the tab is closed
- No more Popup windows!!
- Has Capabilities to detect malware or suspected phishing sites.
I have just completed installation of Chrome, found it amazzzzzzzzzzing look wise!! Woulds be posting a review with required screenshots very soon!!

Update: I have done this post from Chrome browser itself.

you can read the technical details and the invention of the google browser here in the comic

Mozilla labs : introduces ubiquity

Introducing Ubiquity by Mozilla lab says a blog “experiment in connecting the Web with language.”

Ubiquity’s goals are to:

Empower users to control the web browser with language-based instructions. (With search, users type what they want to find. With Ubiquity, they type what they want to do.)

Enable on-demand, user-generated mashups with existing open Web APIs. (In other words, allowing everyone (not just Web developers) to remix the Web so it fits their needs, no matter what page they are on, or what they are doing.)
